Wagga Wagga Art Gallery's collections hold over 2,100 items, and are constantly growing thanks to acquisitions and donations.  The collections focus on contemporary Australian art glass and prints, with a smaller but significant group of works by artists from the Riverina region. Throughout the year, works from the collections are constantly on display, in permanent exhibitions or specially curated shows.

Acquired through the National Student Art Glass Prize, 2010

The National Student Art Glass Prize (NSAGP), one of Wagga Wagga Art Gallery's major initiatives of 2010, is designed to promote and support emerging glass artists and to strengthen relationships with the universities offering art glass within their curriculum. These include the Australian National University ACT, University of Sydney NSW, Monash University VIC, University of South Australia, Curtin University WA and Edith Cowan University WA.

As an acquisitive competition, the NSAGP also helps to grow the National Art Glass Collection, and several works created by some of the most exciting new glass artists in the country were acquired from the inaugural exhibition. Alongside the winning piece, Belinda Toll's Time contained (Australian National University ACT), two works were purchased for the collection by the Friends of the Wagga Wagga Gallery: Kirsten Costello's The fancy rats (Monash University VIC) and Zoe Woods' Inversion 3 (University of South Australia). A fourth piece, Simon Butler's Scales of injustice (University of South Australia), was donated by the artist.
