Get up close and personal with one of Australia’s most established and recognised Aboriginal creatives!

Dr Anita Heiss is the author of non-fiction, historical fiction, commercial women's fiction, poetry, social commentary and travel articles. She is a regular guest at writers' festivals and travels internationally performing her work and lecturing on Indigenous literature. She is a Lifetime Ambassador of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and a proud member of the Wiradjuri nation of central NSW.

Are you a visual artist, clothing designer, jewellery maker, makeup artist, hairstylist, graphic designer, comedian, musician, video producer, weaver or any other artist or creative?

This FREE program is for you!

What is Join the Dots?

  • 12 month program
  • Monthly 3 hour workshops
  • Professional Development for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creatives
  • Interactive workshops with experienced tutors

What will I gain from Join the Dots?

  • Mentoring and networking opportunities;
  • Retail and curatorial experience through a market stall and exhibition showcasing your creative works;
  • Inspiration;
  • Practical steps to progress your skills in various areas;
  • An opportunity to have an in depth conversation with one of Australia's Indigenous movers and shakers
  • The first 8 participants to sign up to the program and regularly attend workshops will receive Public and Products Liability insurance

  • Taking professional looking photographs of your products;
  • Selling your products online using online platforms;
  • Local Wiradjuri culture and sites for inspiration and connection with a cultural tour of our local area;
  • Various creative artforms with a bus tour to the nations capital, Canberra, visiting Aboriginal exhibitions and galleries;
  • Copyright, trademarking, artist rights and artist responsibilities including insurance

Aboriginal Exhibition Day Tour to Canberra

Sun 19 February 7am-7pm

All aboard! Jump on the bus as we take you to the nation’s capital. This full day bus tour will take participants to cultural venues around the city including various galleries and museums featuring Indigenous exhibitions.

National Association for Visual Arts

- Workshop 7

Thurs 16 March 6pm-9pm

Councillors/Committee Room, Civic Centre, cnr Baylis & Morrow Streets

This workshop will give you an overview of your responsibilities and rights as an Aboriginal person in the creative realm. We will explore: Your responsibilities when it comes to insurance and the various types available, your rights as a creative practitioner, licensing, copyright and trademarking. At the end of this workshop participants will also be signed up as a Premium Plus member to NAVA for being part of the Join the Dots program (saving you $280) giving you public and product liability insurance amongst other great benefits!
