Education

Medical Services
As a regional centre the City has two major hospitals, and hosts a range of medical, specialist and allied health services. The strength of the City as a key centre for medical services is supported through the expansion of health-related tertiary education at Charles Sturt University.

In 2016, the redeveloped, state of the art Wagga Wagga Base Hospital was officially opened providing Level 5 rehabilitation service, including both inpatient and outpatient services.

Our Organisation:

The Wagga Wagga Local Government Area LGA covers an area of 482,400 hectares and is bounded by Junee and Coolamon Shires to the north, Gundagai and Tumut Shires to the east, Tumbarumba, Greater Hume and Lockhart Shires in the south and Narrandera Shire in the west.

The infrastructure assets managed by Council include formed roads, bridges and culverts, footpaths, public shelters, kerb and gutter, stormwater and sewer infrastructure, recreational assets, open spaces, Council businesses and community buildings.

The value of the existing network of infrastructure assets in the Wagga Wagga LGA is $1.762 billion (as at 30 June 2017).

Our Workforce
Council’s diverse and skilled workforce represents 2.1% of the total workforce within the Wagga Wagga Local Government Area. Our total workforce comprises of 619 employees including 432 permanent (full time and part time), 128 casual, 46 temporary and 13 trainees, apprentices, cadets and graduates (as at 8 March 2017).

Manager Operations:

Wagga Wagga City Council is seeking a motivated, committed and highly skilled engineering practitioner with strong leadership, operational and technical skills to play a crucial role in the delivery of operational and maintenance works programs.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Tertiary qualifications in civil engineering and demonstrated years of experience in Civil Engineering in a busy and complex environment.
  • Project Management Certification or demonstrated extensive experience in this area.
  • To be a highly skilled engineering practitioner who takes responsibility for leading a multi-disciplinary team.
  • The ability to lead, engage, mentor and develop the Operations team, ensuring effective personnel management.

Manager Project Delivery:

Your new role:
The Manager Project Delivery is responsible for leading and managing the delivery of various portfolio Council projects ensuring defined performance, financial and timeframe requirements are achieved using project management tools, methodologies and best practice.

You will provide expert advice and support to the Commercial Operations Director; project Sponsor(s), and external stakeholders on portfolio performance; lead a high-performing team ensuring the appropriate expertise and support to deliver against project goals is achievable and foster a culture of learning, collaboration and ethical behaviour.

The position is a "hands-on" role providing the opportunity and experience in managing executive-level expectations in both public and private sectors, whilst ensuring a holistic approach in achieving outcomes for Council's strategic objectives.

What you will need to succeed:
We are looking for someone with:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (e.g. Civil/Structural) are mandatory for this role
  • Project Management Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in the development and delivery of large scale projects as well as the ability to deliver on multiple large projects in a complex civil infrastructure environment.

Senior Engineer (Engineering Design)

Council’s Commercial Operations Directorate seeks a qualified and highly skilled civil engineer to provide leadership and expertise in the delivery of frontline civil infrastructure programs.

  • Remuneration package from a minimum of $104,000 gross per annum (inclusive of superannuation) plus applicable Award based allowances

The role:
The position will see you responsible for leading teams that deliver frontline Council Civil Infrastructure programs, which includes road, drainage and sewer services. This will encompass design (concept and detail), planning, asset management, technical and maintenance priorities and input into strategic plans.

What you will need to succeed:
We are looking for someone with:

  • Tertiary qualifications in civil engineering
  • Certified Professional Engineer or eligibility or intent to progress to CP Engineer
  • Extensive work experience in a large and varied engineering environment with technical knowledge of operations and management of civil infrastructure and a particular emphasis on Traffic Engineering/Modelling and Hydrology
  • Experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams
