Adopt, don't shop

Each year around 1500 dogs and 600 cats pass through the Glenfield Road Animal Shelter. The City of Wagga Wagga is doing its best to ensure that as many of these animals as possible are relocated with their owners or adopted into new homes.

Animal availability

All dogs and cats arriving at the animal shelter are photographed and added to this page. If an animal has a microchip, its owner has 14 days to collect it before it becomes available for adoption. If the animal is not microchipped, it becomes available for adoption after seven days.

Adopting from the shelter

If you are looking for a family pet, see the below image gallery of the animals that are currently in the shelter. The animal shelter staff can help you find the right pet that fits in with your family and lifestyle.

From 1 July 2019 anyone (including councils) who advertises dogs and/or cats for sale (including those for free) will be required to include an identifying number in the advertisement. This requirement applies to all advertisements including those in newspapers, local posters, community noticeboards and all forms of online advertising including public advertisements on websites and social media.

Council’s Rehoming Organisation Number is: R251000208.
