Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2017 - 2021

Wagga Wagga City Council is committed to making our community inclusive and accessible for all. Developing and implementing a Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2017 - 2021, we feel it is important for us to have a document that reflects what the community wants and needs in relation to all abilities. It is important to also focus on how we can continue to make Wagga Wagga a liveable city and to grow into the future.

RECHARGE Scheme - You have the power!

Wagga Wagga City Council partnered with RECHARGE Scheme Australia Limited to introduce the RECHARGE Scheme services. The initiative involves providing designated electric scooter and wheelchair recharge outlets to enable community members to recharge their mobility devices if required.

An increasing number of people with restricted mobility find that an electric mobility scooter or wheelchair is a valuable means of transportation. However, steep footpaths, environmental conditions and the age of a battery can make it difficult to calculate travel distances. Knowing the RECHARGE points are available offers peace of mind and confidence to people who use such devices and allows them to travel without fear of being stranded by a flat battery.

For RECHARGE Scheme Fact Sheet click here.

Council's facilities participating in the RECHARGE scheme are easily identified through RECHARGE Point logos displaying on the windows and above or near the designated power points.

There are currently three Council venues participating in the RECHARGE Scheme:

  • Wagga Wagga City Library
  • Wagga Civic Theatre
  • Seniors Community Centre

Comprehensive list of RECHARGE point locations across Australia can be found here.

RECHARGE Program Partners

Wagga Wagga City Council encourages local businesses and organisations to become RECHARGE Partners. Provision of the designated RECHARGE points enhances access and inclusion in local community life forpeople with mobility restrictions.

For a very small cost (the cost to recharge an electric mobility scooter or wheelchair for up to one hour is under 30 cents), businesses and organisations in the community can make a big difference in the lives of people who use a mobility device.
