Award Categories

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION AWARD

The Diversity & Inclusion Award recognises volunteer or unpaid work by an older person 50 years and over who has challenged the status quo to bring about positive change for marginalised individuals and/or groups living in our community.

Selection Criteria:

Nominations will be assessed against how the nominee:

  • Has promoted a positive view of older people and ageing;
  • Has helped the community to address social and justice issues and challenges that directly affect people from diverse backgrounds;
  • Has improved the lives of people through their individual or group work; and
  • Length of involvement (minimum of 12 months).

EDUCATION AWARD

The Education Award recognises volunteer or unpaid work by an older person 50 years and over who has created opportunities for increased access to leisure, lifestyle and educational courses for people living in our community.

Selection Criteria:

Nominations will be assessed against how the nominee:

  • Has promoted a positive view of older people and ageing;
  • Has helped the community to extend their skills and keep active through  access to low-cost educational, creative and leisure programs;
  • Has benefitted people through their individual or group work; and
  • Length of involvement (minimum of 12 months).

HEALTHY & ACTIVE LIVING AWARD

The Healthy & Active Living Award recognises volunteer or unpaid work by an older person 50 years and over who has created opportunities for increased access to community based health and recreational programs for people living in our community. For example, a free yoga class in the park.

Selection Criteria:

Nominations will be assessed against how the nominee:

  • Has promoted a positive view of older people and ageing;
  • Has helped improve the health and fitness of older people by developing or promoting initiatives that encourage active healthy lifestyles;
  • Has benefitted seniors through their individual or group work; and
  • Length of involvement (minimum of 12 months).

ARTS & CULTURE AWARD

The Arts & Culture Award recognises volunteer or unpaid work by an older person 50 years and over who has made a significant contribution to the development of the arts and cultural life of out community.

Selection Criteria:

Nominations will be assessed against how the nominee:

  • Has promoted a positive view of older people and ageing;
  • Has helped shape and define the City of Wagga Wagga’s artistic and cultural identity;
  • Has created opportunities for increased access and engagement with the arts and culture;
  • Has benefitted seniors through their individual or group work; and
  • Length of involvement (minimum of 12 months).

INTERGENERATIONAL LEADERSHIP AWARD

The Intergenerational Leadership Award recognises the development of connections made and programs delivered across the community that foster genuine interaction between people of all ages and demonstrate positive ageing.

There are two categories in this award:

  1. Recognises an outstanding person between the ages of 12 - 25 years who works either in a voluntary or unpaid capacity with older people.
  2. Recognises an outstanding person 50 years and over who works in either in a voluntary or unpaid capacity with young people.

Selection Criteria:

Nominations will be assessed against how the nominee:

  • Has demonstrated excellence in his or her field;
  • Has demonstrated a positive link between generations;
  • Has fostered a positive view of older people;
  • Has helped to promote a positive view of ageing; and
  • Length of involvement (minimum of 12 months).
