Expressions of interest called to lease former Botanic Gardens café/restaurant site

A unique opportunity awaits in the heart of Wagga Wagga’s iconic Botanic Gardens.

Wagga Wagga City Council is currently seeking expressions of interest to lease the former café/restaurant within the gardens, which is popular with local families and visitors alike.

The building comprises three separate areas and may be leased separately or as a whole:

  • A coffee shop/kiosk with outdoor seating area overlooking the children’s playground
  • A function area with wet bar, cool room, toilets, baby change amenities, office, staff bathroom, private courtyard
  • A kitchen with cool room, freezer, benches, grease trap and exhaust hood. This could be leased in conjunction with the function area or coffee shop

“This is a unique opportunity for private enterprise, community groups, social enterprises or education organisations offering a suitable benefit to the community and users of the Botanic Gardens,” Council’s Director Corporate Services Natalie Te Pohe said.

“These are three flexible spaces that can be combined or separated in one of the city’s most well-known recreation spots, which lends itself to some creative potential uses.

“The large space that was formerly a function centre and restaurant could be used for a dance studio, fitness classes or community based activities. The coffee shop and kiosk overlook the children’s playground and is near the entrance to the ever-popular Botanic Gardens Zoo.

“The kitchen area could be used in conjunction with either of the other spaces for catering, functions or entertainment uses either by private enterprise, a training organisation or a social enterprise.”

The Botanic Gardens feature a range of active spaces, an outdoor entertainment area, outdoor wedding areas, the Wagga Wagga Society of Model Engineers’ miniature railway and the zoo, which has a mix of native and farmyard animals along with a free-flight aviary.
