Tap - great taste, less waste
The City of Wagga Wagga and Riverina Water County Council have collaborated to deliver the 'Tap - great taste, less waste' campaign to encourage residents to refill reusable drink bottles with tap water. Drinking and bottle refill stations have been installed on Baylis Street and along the Lake Albert walking track. Refillable glass bottles have been supplied to cafes and restaurants free of charge and residents are being challenged to refuse bottled water in exchange for a refillable water bottle.
We are very fortunate here in Wagga Wagga to have access to clean, safe and affordable drinking water. The World Health Organisation indicates that 900 million people across the globe do not have the same fortunate access to water as us. Tap water is also much cheaper, only costing 0.014c per litre, much less than what you would pay for a litre of bottled water!
Bottled water also contributes significantly to litter in the environment. It is estimated that 160 million beverage containers are littered in NSW every year.
Where can I refill my water bottle?
Through the 'Tap - great taste, less waste' project, an additional six drinking and bottle refill stations have been installed within the city. Three stations have been installed on Baylis Street and 3 have been installed along the Lake Albert walking track.
Can my cafe/restaurant participate?
Cafes and restaurants can register their support for the campaign and receive free 'Tap - great taste, less waste' branded glass water bottles that demonstrates their commitment to providing clean and safe drinking water to their customers without the waste.
