Botanic Gardens 50th Anniversary

In 2018 the Wagga Wagga Botanic Gardens celebrates 50 years since its official opening.

Residents and visitors are invited to stop and smell the roses and join in the celebrations throughout the year. A calendar of these events can be found below.

To further celebrate the 50th anniversary, Wagga Wagga City Council is encouraging community groups, schools, sporting groups, members of the public to embrace the Gardens and hold their next event or gathering there. To book one of the spaces at the Gardens, visit our bookings page.

The Botanic Gardens has something for everyone, from an array of specialised gardens to playgrounds, barbecue area, the Zoo and Aviary and mini railway. To find out more about what the Gardens have to offer, visit the Botanic Gardens website.

Gardens history

The Museum of the Riverina has joined in the Botanic Gardens celebrations! The Museum has compiled a short brochure highligting the history of the Gardens which will be distributed during the 50th anniversary year.

The Museum will also be showing a 'living exhibition' about the early years of the botanic gardens on the balcony of the Botanic Gardens site (Lord Baden Powell Drive). The exhibition will feature real plants and will open in February and be on display during the anniversary year.

In addition to the brochure and exhibition, the Museum is also asking residents to share memories and local stories they have of special occasions or events and gathering shared at the gardens for future publications.  If you have photographs from the early days of the gardens or special memories and stories to share, please contact Regional Museums Officer Sam Leah on 6926 9658 or email leah.sam@wagga.nsw.gov.au.

Family Garden Festival
Come and help celebrate the Botanic Gardens 50th Anniversary at the Botanic Gardens Family Garden Festival! The event with feature great gardening activities, garden stalls + equipment, competitions, family fun and food & drink stalls!  We will also have the "Teddy Bears Picnic" being held in conjunction with our event!
