Understanding & Reporting Hate Crimes

Take this opportunity to learn and become certified in supporting young people around their mental health needs and wellbeing.

Hate crime not only harms victims, but it also harms their families and entire communities. Hate crimes are unfortunately underreported across the community and particular from those vulnerable communities such as international students who may not know how to report the incident or who to report it to

Early last year, the NSW Police Force launched a hate crime awareness campaign designed to educate the public about what are hate crimes, what to do if you are a victim of a hate crime or witness a hate crime and encourage everyone to report incidents to the New South Wales Police Force. A series of education videos, collateral and information packs have been released on social media to create greater awareness around reporting hate crimes and hate incidents to police.

The NSW Police Force is committed to the prevention, disruption and reduction of hate crime and the support of victims and communities. By spreading awareness of what defines a hate crime, we hope more people will come forward and report to the NSW Police. The NSW Police Force has a dedicated Engagement and Hate Crime Unit which works with all Police Area Commands and Police Districts to encourage victims and witnesses to report any incidents to police.

Community, service workers and interested parties are invited to attend a lunch and learn style workshop on understanding and reporting hate crimes.
