Financial Assistance for Waste Disposal Fees

Council offers financial assistance to the community in various forms, including grants, sponsorships, donations, in-kind support, and the waiving of Council fees and charges. This includes subsidies or waivers for waste disposal fees.

There are two types of waste fee waivers or subsidies available:

  1. Annual Waiver or Reduction – Up to a maximum value of $1,000 per year. This applies to individuals, not-for-profit organisations, non-government registered charities, or community groups.
  2. Project-Based Waiver or Reduction – Up to a maximum value of $250 for a single, specific project.

Funding Round

Applications for these waivers or subsidies open annually. Notices are usually published in March or April each year with Council aiming to assess and determine the applications by May or June so that approved support can begin from 1 July, aligning with the start of the financial year.

Application Assessment

Applications are assessed upon submission based on current guidelines, eligibility criteria, and available budget. Council staff will review each application and make recommendations to the next available full Council meeting.

All applications are considered on their individual merits, taking into account the applicant's circumstances and the availability of funds. Applications submitted after the budgeted funds have been fully allocated will not be considered. However, these applications may be resubmitted when the new funding cycle begins on 1 July each year.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for a waiver or subsidy, the request must meet the following criteria:

  • The applicant must be a registered not-for-profit organisation, a non-government registered charity (registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission), a community group, or an individual based in the Wagga Wagga Local Government Area.
  • Council will consider any previous donations or support given to the applicant.
  • The applicant must demonstrate whether other funding sources are available.
  • The proposed waste collection must improve the surrounding environment or offer a benefit to the community.

Conditions

  • Approved fee reductions will be provided as a credit in Council’s financial system and can only be used by the registered applicant.
  • All fee reductions or waivers must be used within the financial year they are granted.
  • Waste must be delivered to the Gregadoo Waste Management Centre or another Council-nominated company. The goods must not be damaged intentionally before or during delivery.
  • When applying, applicants must provide the registration numbers of the private vehicles that will be used to transport and dispose of waste.
  • Fee waivers or subsidies for mixed waste tipping are only available on Clean-Up Australia Day or other Council-approved clean-up events.
