About the project
New drains are being installed at the four centre-of-block pedestrian crossings in Baylis Street. The drains will help reduce large puddles forming on the footpaths during heavy rain events and are part of an overall improvement program being carried out in Baylis Street.
New iron-grated drains are being installed at the Baylis Street pedestrian crossings to redirect surface water into the existing stormwater network.
In August crews completed works in the Tompson to Morrow streets block. Crews then moved on to the Edward to Morgan streets block, this section is due for completion by 13 October.
Works are expected to start outside the Sturt Mall in the Forsyth to Tompson street block on Monday 16 October. This work is expected to take one week, before crews move to the final crossing outside the Marketplace, between Morgan and Forsyth streets.
Works will be undertaken between the hours of 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday (subject to works and weather conditions). If works are completed ahead of this schedule crews will move on to the next block.
To allow for a safe work site, the crossing and parts of the footpaths on the approach to the crossing will be closed to pedestrians. A small number of parking spaces near the crossings will also be closed to allow safe movements in and out of the work site.
Due to the nature of the works, some noise will be generated.
Temporary fencing will be installed around the work site for the safety of pedestrians and workers.

August 2017 - Works started on installing new drains at the pedestrian crossings in Baylis Street. The crossings are closed to foot traffic while the works are being undertaken. Works are currently underway at the crossing between Morrow and Tompson streets. The community is reminded to take care around the sites, and some noise will be generated due to the nature of the works.
