Project Overview
Wagga Wagga City Council completed the $6.4 million Farrer Road Upgrade in August 2020, delivering a safer and more efficient transport corridor for residents, students and road users. The project upgraded the full length of Farrer Road to accommodate increasing traffic volumes associated with residential growth and the expansion of nearby educational institutions, including Charles Sturt University and The Riverina Anglican College.
The project involved widening and reconstructing Farrer Road, installing additional turning lanes at key intersections, relocating underground services and completing associated infrastructure upgrades. Works were delivered in stages to maintain property and road access throughout construction. Upon completion, the upgraded road improved traffic flow, increased capacity and enhanced safety for motorists, pedestrians and the growing Boorooma and Estella communities.
The project was funded through a combination of Section 7.11 Developer Contributions and Wagga Wagga City Council funding. To allow the project to proceed earlier than originally scheduled, initial funding was also provided through the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure's Low Cost Loans Initiative (LCLI) program.
