Project Updates
Road upgrades completed | 27 Jun 2022
The upgrade of two of Wagga Wagga's busiest roads is now complete.
A total of 1.4 kilometres of road including the two roundabouts outside of Bunnings was upgraded as part of the $5.6 million project.
Works included the milling out of existing pavement, putting in a thick layer of asphalt pavement and overlaying a continuous asphaltic concrete wearing layer along the length of Dobney Avenue and Pearson Street and roundabouts.
The upgrade has improved the roads to deliver a better ride quality and safety for motorists and cyclists. The roads now cater for Higher Mass Loading limits which is important given the commercial movement along these routes and within this precinct.
This project was funded by the Australian Government in association with the NSW Government and Wagga Wagga City Council.
Dobney Avenue upgrade nearing completion | 16 May 2022
Night works to upgrade Dobney Avenue are almost complete, with the final seal to be laid early this week, weather permitting.
Adverse weather conditions have delayed the planned completion of Dobney Avenue works. Aside from the line marking, the road is scheduled to be completed by Thursday 19 May.
Work to upgrade Pearson Street will commence following completion of the Dobney Avenue pavement works. The work will begin at the Edward Street end of Pearson Street and progress towards the roundabouts outside Bunnings.
Once crews start working on Pearson Street, traffic will be detoured via Dobney Avenue.
Works will take place at night between 6pm and 6am to minimise the impact on traffic. The roads will be reopened to traffic during the daytime.
Nightworks to start 20 April | 08 Apr 2022
Nightworks to upgrade Pearson Street and Dobney Avenue will be carried out between 6pm and 6am from 20 April to 18 June, weather permitting.
During the works there will be some inconvenience to traffic, businesses, and its patrons.
Construction will be carried out in stages. Each section of the road undergoing works will be closed to through traffic. Detours and traffic control will be in place.
Street parking where the road works are being undertaken will not be available that night. For delivery drivers or access to businesses, traffic controllers at the site will assist with access where practicable.
The rehabilitation works will deliver a smoother ride and improve safety for road users by renewing the current rough surface and improve environmental factors such as noise reduction and the flow of surface water.
Project update - 24 February | 24 Feb 2022
Council has taken a major step forward in the $5.6 million rehabilitation of Dobney Avenue and Pearson Street this week, awarding the works contract to Fulton Hogan Industries.
Councillors made the decision in an Extraordinary Meeting of Wagga Wagga City Council on Monday 21 February 2022.
The works will be undertaken as night works to minimise inconvenience to the adjoining businesses as well as motorists.
Local businesses and the community will be advised of the start date and duration of the works as soon as they have been determined.
Project update - 10 January | 10 Jan 2022
Dobney Avenue and Pearson Street Rehabilitation project – out to tender, closing 19 January 2022.
Preliminary works for the upgrade of Dobney Avenue and Pearson Street to start 20 September | 20 Sep 2021
We’ll be carrying out kerb and gutter replacement works along Dobney Avenue and Pearson Street between 7am and 5pm from Monday 20 September to 8 October, weather permitting.
During the works some parking lanes will be closed, a reduced speed limit will be in place and the roads will be under traffic control.
It is necessary for these works to be carried out before the $5.6 million full road rehabilitation of Dobney Avenue and Pearson Street begins early next year.
Planning and design for the major section of work is in progress with the road upgrade scheduled to be completed by the end of February 2022, weather permitting. This major work will be undertaken as night works to minimise the impact on local businesses.
