The project to upgrade Dunns Road is advancing steadily.
Contractors are close to finishing the first stage of work, where they had delivered and laid down around 400 truckloads of road base over the 3.3km unsealed road section.
The road base plays a critical role in the project because it provides a solid foundation for the road surface.
Weather permitting, contractors will finish this section of road by applying the final bitumen seal over the course of two days next week.
To reach this point, work on this section of road since construction started in May has included:
- grading to widen and reshape the Olympic Highway end of Dunns Road
- earthworks on sections of the existing road
- installing an improved drainage system, which includes a new culvert on the realigned section of road
- stabilisation of the subsoil.
The next stage of this upgrade will focus on the Olympic Highway intersection. This work is expected to start in early October 2023.
