Playground Strategy 2024-2044

Council's Playground Strategy provides a framework to guide the planning, development, and maintenance of play spaces across the LGA over the next 20 years.

About the Strategy

Playgrounds are a crucial component of early childhood development, offering opportunities for physical, intellectual, and social growth. In both natural and urban settings, outdoor play supports healthy development and contributes to community wellbeing. With 100 playgrounds located across the Wagga Wagga Local Government Area, these spaces form an integral part of the city’s open space network, providing accessible and engaging environments for children, families, and carers.

The Wagga Wagga Playground Strategy sets out a long-term plan to guide the development, enhancement, and maintenance of these play spaces over the next 20 years. It recognises the importance of offering a diverse range of experiences—ensuring that playgrounds are not uniform, but reflect the varied needs of different communities. Feedback from community consultation has confirmed strong support for the number and variety of playgrounds, while also identifying a desire for improved shade, inclusive play opportunities, and greater accessibility. The strategy aims to balance quality, equity, and sustainability in the delivery of playgrounds that serve the city now and into the future.
