Commercial Waste Services

Council provides a streamlined waste management services for commercial and non-residential properties

Standard commercial waste service

Commercial and non-residential properties in Wagga Wagga produce around one-third of all landfill waste. To improve waste sorting and reduce landfill impacts, Council has introduced simplified waste services for businesses and non-residential premises in the collection area.

These simplified services now align with residential waste options, with businesses receiving:

  • 1 × 240L red-lid general waste bin – collected fortnightly
  • 1 × 240L yellow-lid recycling bin – collected fortnightly
  • 1 × 240L green-lid FOGO bin – collected weekly

Depending on the needs of your business, you may wish to opt in to an additional service.

  • Upgrade yellow-lid recycling bin from 240L to 360L – fortnightly collection
  • Additional waste, recycling or FOGO bins

Please contact Council's customer service team on 1300 292 442 to discuss additional service options. For extra or specialised waste needs, businesses can arrange services through private waste contractors.

Commercial waste service opt out

Property owners can opt out of Council’s commercial waste service, removing both the collection and the service charge. To do so, send written notice with your name and property address to Council by post, email, or in person. Tenants should advise the property owner if they do not wish to utilise the service so that the property owner can make representation on the tenants behalf.

Waste Auditing - Bin Trim

The NSW Environment Protection Authority's Bin Trim program is helping businesses with up to 400 staff reduce their waste and improve their recycling efforts.

Avoiding, reusing and recycling isn’t just good for the planet; it’s good for your business.

Roughly 70% of the things in your general waste bin can be reused or recycled. From cardboard, paper and plastic through to food waste – so much of this ends up in the general waste bin, when it could be put back in the economy.

If you would like some assistance in assessing the waste you generate, arrange for a Bin Trim assessor to conduct a free waste and recycling assessment and produce a tailored action plan for your business.

A Bin Trim Business waste assessor will:

  • visit you to take your details and register you in the Bin Trim program
  • review your business waste
  • help you get started by working with you to create a waste reduction action plan
  • see if your business is eligible for a rebate to help out with buying equipment
  • provide practical support and advice to help your business put your plan into action.

Equipment rebates between $1,000 and $50,000 are available to help with the cost of recycling equipment, a Bin Trim assessor will respond to your enquiry via this link Bin Trim

You may wish to do a Bin Trim Business assessment yourself.

An online portal is available for all NSW businesses to undertake a waste self-assessment. The portal has free access to resources and support. Find out more Bin Trim Business app

The free app helps businesses measure their waste and create meaningful actions to avoid, reduce, reuse, and recycle. Businesses simply sign up for an account, complete a visual waste assessment, and create an action plan to reduce waste.

Businesses that complete a self-assessment using the app can also apply for an equipment rebate between $1,000 and $50,000 for onsite equipment or technology that avoids or reduces waste. Eligible equipment includes commercial worm farms, balers, shredders, granulators, source separation bins and more.
