Voting at NSW Local Government Elections is compulsory. Anyone who does not vote may receive a fine from the NSW Electoral Commission.

Voting

Voting is compulsory at all NSW local government elections except for council polls.

You must vote at a venue in your enrolled council area (or ward if you live in a divided council area). You cannot vote at a venue in another area. Use the address lookup tool to find your council or ward.

How to vote

Voting at a polling booth

You can vote at available polling booth locations on Saturday, 14 September 2024.  Full list available on the Where to vote page.

Pre-poll voting

Pre-poll voting will commence on Saturday 7 September 2024. Full list available on the Where to vote page.

Postal voting

If you will be unable to cast your vote on election day or via a a pre-poll venue  you may apply for a postal vote.

You can apply for postal voting through the NSW Electoral Commission via NSWEC website or call 1300 135 736.
