MENDING PEOPLE

CROSS-CULTURAL TEXTILE WORKSHOPS

Mending is the skill of repair and an act of invention; an imaginative, resourceful way of thinking about renewal and recovery.

The Mending People workshops led by textile artist Mary Coughlan and Afghani refugee artisan, Roghayeh Uzbak is a chance to learn styles of mending and embroidery found across the world in all cultures. This project is a continuation of collaborative blanket banners that began at FUSION BOTANICAL multicultural festival last year. The aim of the project is to, ‘Be proud of who you are; start where you live; use what you have and do what you can.’

So come and slow-make with us. Start (or extend) your mending and embroidery journey with help and support from our generous community of makers with everything you need to confidently create the next blanket banners with care and calming attention. You’ll discover the basics of choosing threads, wrangling thimbles and tending your cloth in a supportive and joyful space.

No textile skills or knowledge required, and all materials and tools provided.
