Bin collection
Bin collections in the Wagga Wagga Local Government Area operate on a fortnightly schedule. The green lid bin is emptied weekly, whilst the yellow lid bin and red lid bin are emptied on alternate weeks.
Standard household kerbside service
The standard household service provides the following bins:
- 240L Green lid food organics and garden organics bin (collected weekly)
- 240L Yellow lid recycling bin (collected fortnightly)
- 140L Red lid general waste bin (collected fortnightly)
- 7L kitchen caddy and annual supply of compostable liners
All properties that pay a Domestic Waste Management Service Charge receive the kerbside service.
Residents under rental agreements within the collection area automatically receive this service as this charge is payable by landlords.
If you are unsure if your rented property receives this service please contact Wagga Wagga City Council on 1300 292 442 or your rental agency.
Which bin do I put out for collection?
The red lid bins and yellow lid bins are collected on alternate weeks. Which bin to put out depends on which zone you live in; Zone 1 or Zone 2. To find out which zone you live in, and to print the bin collection calendar, follow these steps:
- Go to Council's Online Services and search your property address.
- Under the heading 'Kerbside Waste Collection' you will see your collection day and zone at your address.
- Download the calendar for your zone, which will either be the Zone 1 bin collection calendar or Zone 2 bin collection calendar
- Print the calendar in colour and note down your collection day. Also, print out the waste sorting guide to help you figure out which item goes in which bin.
- Follow the colour coded bin collection calendar for when to place your red and yellow bins out for collection. Remember, your green lid bin is collected weekly. Bins should be placed on the kerbside before 6am on the day of collection.

Subsidised services
An additional 140L red lid general waste bin may be provided free of charge in the case of a resident/household who, directly as a result of a medical condition or as a large family, generates higher quantities of general waste than other properties.
Please contact Council's customer service team on 1300 292 442 to discuss these options and to obtain an application form.
Please Note: All subsidised waste services require annual validation of the service.
Large households
Under the subsidised services program a large household is defined as 5 or more dependents under the age of 18 residing at the one property address. Upon application supporting documentation is required which includes a clear copy of your Medicare card.
Medical waste
Residents generating additional general waste as a result of the management of a medical condition can apply for a subsidised 140L red lid general waste bin. Upon application please provide written advice from a medical practitioner stating that as a result of the medical condition you require additional waste disposal. Please note, the bin must not be used to dispose of medical equipment still containing bodily fluids.
Multi-Unit Development - Bulk Bin Service
Eligible strata-managed property complexes can apply to be classified as a Multi-Unit Development for waste collection. This allows the use of bulk bins instead of multiple individual bins, helping to streamline waste management.
The program supports more efficient collection of general waste, recycling, and food and garden organics, and helps to:
- Improve access and reduce obstructions in laneways, driveways, and footpaths
- Minimise contamination and improve waste separation
- Free up kerbside space and reduce bin clutter
- Improve on-site bin storage
- Reduce missed collections and noise from frequent services
Each complex will be provided with an appropriate combination of bins based on its specific needs. Associated costs will appear on the property’s rates notice.
