National Tree Day 2024

This year for National Tree Day, Wagga Wagga City Council has partnered with Regional Growth NSW Development Corporation to host a community tree planting event at Bomen on Sunday 28 July 2024.

National Tree Day is one of Australia's most recognisable campaigns promoting community-based action for the environment through the simple act of planting seedlings. Each year around 300,000 people volunteer their time to engage with environmental activities that educate Australians about the world around them.

One Tree for Me 2024

This year we have three free seedling events, giving away another 6,000 seedlings to the community over the months of July and August and September because this is the best time to get your seedlings in the ground. We choose different locations each time to try to spread them around to provide everyone with the best opportunity.

How it works is, you turn up within the allotted time and we will give you a bag containing a small number of seedlings that are native to the local area and suited to the Wagga climate. It's all part of our initiative to encourage people to grow the right sort of plants to support native wildlife, such as our little birds and other important pollinators, in our own backyards – so no big trees that may interfere with power lines or sewage works.

And best of all, it’s all free!

Details for the first event are:

  • Where: Saturday 13 July at the Marine Centre at Gumly Gumly
  • When: Starting from 9am, we will be there until 1pm (or until all seedlings are given away)

You can find out more about the project at the website.

Council will be holding a Service Help Desk every Tuesday from 2:30pm - 4:30pm (with different timeslots available) at the Wagga Wagga City Library - Learning Space 3.

The help desk aims to assist those who are not tech-savvy, lack access to a computer, or missed the webinar and would like a guided walkthrough.

You can register now by calling 1300 292 442 or alternatively click on the REGISTER tab to complete registration.
