Priority One of our Community Safety Action Plan 2022-2026 is 'safe homes and neighbourhoods'. There are a number of initiatives across Council to ensure that everyone feels welcome and safe in our shared public spaces, from community halls, cultural facilities to parks and sports grounds.
Activating spaces through community events such as FUSION BOTANICAL in Turvey Park, Kooringal Kicks & Tricks in Kooringal and of course Wagga CBD based festivals such as Festival of W and other regular outdoor activities.
Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
Council actively upskills staff in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) which seeks to design places and spaces in ways that help prevent crime and make everyone feel safe. This can include considerations for lighting, sight lines, passive surveillance, creative installations and changing the usage of a space.
Closed circuit television (CCTV)
Closed circuit television (CCTV) is used in some public spaces across our city to reduce and prevent crime. CCTV footage can also help police to identify offenders if a crime takes place.
