Youth Services and Supports

Advocacy

Youth of Wagga Crew (YoW) is a free youth group facilitated by Wagga Wagga City Council who are provided the opportunity to consult on various Council masterplans, action plans and strategies.

Advocate for Children and Young People is an independent statutory office reporting to the NSW Parliament through the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Children and Young People.

Anti-Discrimination NSW provide support and advocacy to people who have been discriminated against, sexually harassed, vilified or victimised in NSW. Free calls available to 1800 670 812.

Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network is the national peak body on multicultural youth issues – Australia’s only national voice represents the needs and interests of young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds.

Youth Action is the peak organisation representing young people and youth services across NSW.

YFoundations is the peak body organisation representing youth homelessness in Australia.

Young People NSW provides useful information, guidance and support services for all stages of a young person's life in NSW.

Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD)

Karralika provides free support for children and young people between 10 and 19 years of age who are experiencing difficulties with, and are exposed to, alcohol and other drugs. Located  at 69 Johnston Street, Wagga Wagga and contacted via 6185 1300.

Pathways Murrumbidgee provides free support to young people over the age of 18 who are experiencing addiction through counselling, drug testing and group supports. Located at 26 Morrow Street, Wagga Wagga and contacted via 6971 7330.

Alcohol and Drug Information Service (ADIS) is a free 24/7 counselling helpline for NSW residents dealing with drug and alcohol related issues. Web chat is offered between 8:30am and 5pm.

Family Drug Support Line (24 hours) is national telephone service that assists families to deal with alcohol and drug issues in a way that strengthens relationships and achieves positive outcomes: 1300 368 186.

Counselling and Support 

headspace Wagga Wagga provides free and confidential mental health support, alcohol and other drugs counselling, and work and study assistance. Located at 141 Peter Street, Wagga Wagga and contacted via 1800 856 572. headspace online support groups are also avaliable.

Medicare Mental Health Centre is a free and confidential, drop-in mental health centre for young people 16 years and older experiencing crisis, seeking young parent/carer support or seeking peer-support. Located at 235-241 Baylis Street, Wagga Wagga and contacted via 6453 4440.

Intereach offers free and confidential mental health and wellbeing support to children and young people ages 16 and under. Located at 20 Peter Street and contacted via 1300 488 226.

Lifeline Australia is a 24/7 telephone crisis support and suicide prevention hotline: 13 11 14.

Beyond Blue offers a 24/7 support and chat line: 1300 224 636.

Kids helpline is a free, confidential and anonymous telephone and online counselling service, specifically for young people aged between five and 25 years old: 1800 551 800.

QLife Australia provide LGBTI peer support daily from 3pm to midnight: 1800 184 527.

Reach Out! offers information on issues relating to youth suicide.

Suicide Call-back Service: 1300 659 467.

Transcultural Mental Health Service

NSW Mental Health Line is available 24/7 at 1800 011 511.

Domestic Violence 

If you are in immediate danger, call Police via 000.

Wagga Women's Health Centre provides free and confidential support to women of all ages seeking domestic and family violence support. Located at 22 Peter Street and contacted via 6921 3333.

1800RESPECT is a national sexual assault, domestic family violence counselling service: 1800 737 732.

Domestic Violence Helpline NSW: 1800 656 463.

Health

Ask for Health is a website that provides trusted health information for young people under 25.

Butterfly Foundation is a website that provides information and support for eating disorders.

Play Safe is a website that provides information and support for sexual health in young people.

Homelessness 

Eastern Murrumbidgee Youth Service supports young people aged 16-25 who are experiencing, or are at risk of, homelessness. Located at 59 Thorne Street and contacted via 69834200.

HOMES NSW supports young people and adults seeking immediate housing, financial support and tenancy support. Located at 25/27 Tompson Street, Wagga Wagga and contacted via 1800 152 152.

Link2home provides 24/7 referral to accommodation and services. You can contact them at 1800 152 152.

Legal 

Legal Aid NSW provides free and confidential legal information to young people and adults around driving offenses, criminal charges, apprehended violence orders and more. Located at 74-76 Fitzmaurice Street, Wagga Wagga and contacted via 6921 6588.

Aboriginal Legal Service is a free and culturally safe service providing legal advise to First Nations People. Located at 19 Trail Street and contacted via 1800 765 767.

Youth Law Australia provide free, confidential legal information and help for young people under 25.


Wagga Wagga Community Directory

The Wagga Wagga Community Directory is an online directory of community groups, services and facilities, providing up-to-date information for community organisations who provide services in the Wagga Wagga, area as well as showing upcoming events in the area.

The directory provides residents, visitors and organisations the opportunity to easily find contact information for community-based services in the local area.

Council's Youth Development Officer chairs the Wagga Wagga Youth Interagency Group (WYIG) meetings.
The WYIG brings youth specific service providers and community groups together - allowing them to collaborate and discuss the diverse range of needs and opportunities facing young people today.
The WYIG network communicates and shares information through an email group and meets on a bi-monthly basis on the fourth Wednesday of the month from 9:30am to 10:30am (unless otherwise stated).

The Youth and Community Development Officer actively participates on a number of key agency groups including the Community Drug and Alcohol Team (CDAT), Wagga Domestic Violence Liaison Committee, Triple H Forum, the annual headspace Youth Mental Health Forum and Tolland Working Group.

Annual Grants Program - Youth Led Initiatives

Each financial year, Council makes funds available under its Annual Grants Program. The program assists recipients to deliver quality programs, events and projects which support the community and enhance wellbeing.

The Youth Projects and Programs category is for young people to develop and lead their own youth focused projects and works to connect young people and promote activity within the community.

  • MONTHLY YOUTH OF WAGGA CREW (YoW) CATCH-UP'S: A space for young people aged 12 to 25 years to connect, inform and deliver youth-led initiatives, programs and advocate their youth perspective for free in this fun, informal group! Keep an eye on our socials for catch-up dates, Instagram and Facebook.
  • YOUTH WEEK: This is a NSW initiative to show off how cool and connected young people are in their community! With our Youth Week Crew we plan, develop and deliver a 2-week program jam-packed with social activities, low-cost training opportunities, creative workshop & so much more!
  • YOUNG WAGGA VOICES: Are you 14 to 25 years of know someone who is? Are they keen to share their ideas and thoughts? Join YOUNG WAGGA VOICES, our local new podcast for young people living, working and thriving in Wagga Wagga on Wiradjuri Country. Want to record an episode? Pop your topic ideas in an email and send to Mel at youth@wagga.nsw.gov.au 🎤💬
  • SCHOOL HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES: During the Summer and Spring school holiday, we run drop-in activities in collaboration with local organisations! These range from gaming sessions, low-key outdoor activities + picnics, crafting workshops & more! To keep up to date on our school holiday activities, sign up to our newsletter HERE
  • ANNUAL GRANTS: Wagga Wagga City Council runs an Annual Grants Program where funding is dedicated to supporting community ideas, events and programs AND there is a Youth Programs & Projects category.
