Kooringal Kicks and Tricks was the ultimate way to start off your 2025!
Young people in our Kooringal community and beyond hit Henwood Skate Park on Thursday 30 January with the sickest tricks in an all ages, all skill level skateboarding, bmx’ing, rollerblading and scootering competition ran by Al’s Skate Co. Epic prizes were received by entrants throughout the day thanks to local skate shop EXPLOIT.
An added level of this fun day saw over 120 young people receive pivotal education resources for free, including new school bags, pencil cases, decorated exercise books, stationary, drink bottles and hygiene packs – all thanks to St Vincents de Paul Riverina, Riverina Water, Riv Med, Wagga Wagga Community Drug Action Team, The Smith Family, OMNIA Inclusive and Wagga Women’s Health Centre.
A classic sausage in bread was enjoyed by all thanks to volunteers from Rapid Food Relief, and mini-group activities like cupcake decorating, drumming, traditional weaving, footy, facepainting and 3x3 basketball added an extra level of fun while rocking on with DJ Tee and Centennial.
And did we mention over 300 free stylish haircuts were supported thanks to Cockatoo Initiative and a slew of local hair experts!
As the sun went down, Rural Outreach Counselling treated us to a huge pop-up outdoor movie screening of The Wild Robot, as selected by local young people. We sat under twinkling lights, rolled out picnic rugs and battled in handball competitions right up to the rolling of the movie credits.
Kooringal Kicks and Tricks 2025 was proudly hosted and funded by Wagga Wagga City Council, NSW Government, Wagga Wagga Community Drug Action Team and Cockatoo Initiative.
