Reusable nappy and menstrual products rebate

Residents within the Wagga Wagga LGA can apply for a partial rebate for the cost of reusable nappies and/or menstrual products.

Wagga Wagga City Council is offering residents from the Wagga Wagga Local Government Area the opportunity to apply for a rebate after purchasing reusable nappies and/or menstrual products.

You can receive a rebate for half the cost of reusable nappies, up to the value of $100 per child and half the cost of reusable menstrual products up to the value of $50 per person.

The Reusable nappy and menstrual products rebate initiative is now a permanent offering after a successful trial from September 2022 to June 2024.

Am I eligible for this rebate?

To be eligible for this rebate you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be a resident of the Wagga Wagga Local Government Area (proof of address is required in your submission)
  • The purchase must have taken place within the current financial year (between 1 July 2024 - 30 June 2025)
  • You must provide proof of purchase with the date, name of product(s) and the price.

How much will I get back from the rebate?

Recipients will receive a rebate for half the cost of reusable nappies, up to the value of $100 per child.

I purchased some reusable nappies and/or menstrual products in 2023, can I apply for the rebate for those products?

No. The rebate applies to the current financial year, anything purchased prior to 1 July 2024 is no longer eligible.

Can I apply for the rebate more than once?

Yes. If you’ve only used part of the rebate you are eligible for per financial year you can apply more than once.

For example, if in one application for a menstrual product rebate you received $25 back, you can apply again for further purchases until the $50 limit per person is reached for that financial year.

If you received the full rebate you will have to wait until the next financial year to apply again.

How do I apply for the nappy and menstrual product rebate?

What items are eligible for the rebate?

Modern cloth nappies, such as fitted nappies, all-in-one nappies, all-in-two nappies, pocket nappies, night nappies, swim nappies and terry towelling/prefold nappies.

You can also claim nappy inserts and liners. Menstrual products included in the rebate are reusable pads, menstrual cups and menstrual underwear.

Accessories such as wet bags, nappy pods, strainers / buckets / pails, laundry products, change mats, wipes, nappy rash cream, nappy change harness, swaddles and breast/nursing pads are not eligible for the rebate.

I have three children in nappies, are they all eligible for this rebate?

Yes. You can apply for each child who is under the age of 12 years.

How will I know if my application is successful?

We will send you an email confirming your application was successful.

How long will it take to process my rebate?

You will receive your rebate within 21 days after receiving your confirmation email.

How will the rebate be paid?

All rebates will be paid via bank transfer.

What will happen to my application if my submitted form is incomplete?

Council holds no responsibility for following up incomplete submissions.

Does this rebate cover the cost of materials purchased to make my own reusable nappies and menstrual products?

No, this rebate only covers the cost of professionally made reusable products.

Are all applications successful?

Funding is not automatic on application. Your application will be assessed to see if it meets the eligibility criteria before the rebate is applicable.

  • Wagga Wagga City Council (Council) will accept one application per child or per person per financial year (July 1 - June 30)
  • This rebate is available to residents living within the Wagga Wagga Local Government Area (LGA) at the time of purchase and application.
  • Applications and receipt or proof of purchase must fall within the current financial year.
  • Invoices must show applicant’s name where applicable (i.e. online purchases) and the billing and mailing address must match the application. Items billed or mailed to addresses outside of the LGA will not be eligible for the rebate.
  • Residents may apply for half of the cost of reusable nappies, up to $100, per child, per financial year.
  • Residents may apply for half the cost of reusable menstrual products up to the value of $50, per person, per financial year.
  • Successful applicants will be advised by email if their application is successful.
  • Rebates will be paid via bank transfer to the submitted bank details. Please allow up to 21 days for the payment to appear.
  • The rebate for reusable nappies includes modern cloth nappies, reusable nappy liners (e.g. bamboo), terry cloth square nappies, and reusable wipes and wet bags.
  • The reusable nappy rebate does not include materials and items used to make cloth nappies by hand.
  • Postage costs are not included in any rebate paid for reusable products purchased online.
  • The applicant must provide current proof of residence, e.g. rates notice or utility bill. The proof of residence must be dated within 3 months of the proof of purchase date.
  • If your name does not match the name on your proof of residence, please supply change of name documentation, (such as wedding certificate).
  • The applicant must provide a copy of the receipt or proof of purchase. It must include the company name, date, and clear identification of name and cost of each individual item purchased.
  • The copy of invoice or proof of purchase must be a whole copy, not a partial copy. Screen shots of receipts must show entirety of the purchase including postal address, payees name, purchased products and their individual costs.
  • Council holds no responsibility for following up incomplete submissions.
  • Council holds the right to reject any application and the decision will be final.
  • Council collects personal information about applicants in order to facilitate the rebate program and will not use this information for any other purpose. Council uses and manages applicant’s personal information in accordance with its privacy policy and does not pass this information on to a third party.
