Scores on Doors for food business

What is Scores on Doors?

Scores on Doors is a food safety program that rates food businesses based on their compliance with hygiene and food safety standards.

The Scores on Doors scoring program is initiated by the NSW Food Authority and run collaboratively with Local Government Councils across New South Wales. It displays the results of regular inspections of food premises, allowing communities to make informed decisions around local restaurants, takeaway shops, bakeries, pub bistros, and cafes that comply with NSW hygiene and food safety requirements.

How does it work?

Participating businesses receive a rating (such as “Good,” “Very Good,” or “Excellent”) after inspections.

Rating

Points

Definition

0-3

The business has achieved the highest level of compliance with food safety standards.

Very Good

4-8

The business has very good food safety practices in place. Some minor areas where standards were not met will need to be addressed

Good

9-15

The business has a good standard of food safety compliance. A few areas, although not serious, need to be corrected.

Pending

16+

Pending status means the food business does not comply with food safety legislation. Follow up action is required. No certificate issued.

Who can participate?

Restaurants, takeaway shops, bakeries, pubs, clubs, hotels, and cafés and opt in to the Scores on Doors program.

What’s the benefit?

The Scores on Doors program gives businesses a competitive edge. It also informs consumers about a business’s good work in hygiene practices, while serving as further advertisement for businesses.

Remember, good food hygiene leads to higher star ratings, which ultimately benefits any participating business giving them the competitive leading edge!

If you are a food business and would like to be a participant on the program, contact your local Environmental Health Officer on 1300 292 442.
